12 Winter Coffee Recipes: The Best Warm Drinks For Cold Nights

The cold season is upon us. Pretty soon, it will be sweaters and coats and socks and most of all, cups full of warm beverages to combat the cold. There are a lot of drinks you can prepare at home to share with the people who also keep your heart warm. This list will be updated with many more recipes we can find. Step 1: DIY Milk Frothing

A lot of the recipes you will find on this list need frothed milk. It is easier to make steamed milk using an espresso machine followed by manual frothing. However, espresso machines may not always be available. This is an alternative.

Put a certain amount of milk into a mason jar and microwave it for 60-90 seconds uncovered. After that, immediately place the lid on and manually shake the jar for 30 seconds to make the milk foamy. There is a slight difference in consistency and texture compared to one made from the machine but it will still suffice.

Gingerbread Latte

The gingerbread cookie is an all-time favorite treat. Now, there is a drink inspired by it that is perfect for when you crave that cozy, caffeinated feeling with a hint of spice. 

Ingredients:

Recipe for Gingerbread Syrup:

  1. Dissolve 1 cup of sugar in 1 cup of water, bring to a boil and then let it simmer.
  2. Add 1 cinnamon stick, 1 tablespoon of honey, ½ tsp allspice, ½ tsp clove, ½ tsp nutmeg, and ½ tsp ginger (fresh, if available).
  3. On low heat, let the mixture simmer for 10 minutes then strain. 

Procedure:

  1. Mix hot coffee and the gingerbread syrup together in a cup.
  2. Add half a part of the frothed milk and stir. 
  3. Then add the remaining frothed milk.
  4. Sprinkle a little bit of your preferred spice or add a cinnamon stick. Garnish as you please.

Cold Brew Hot Toddy (With or without Whiskey)

The great thing about this drink is its versatility. It works both as a comfort drink and a fun drink by just adding a splash of whiskey to it. This is a great companion for cold, uneventful nights when you want to have a bit of fun. 

Ingredients:

  • 1 Ounce cold brew coffee
  • 1 Ounce bourbon whiskey (optional)
  • 6 Ounce hot water
  • 1 Tablespoon honey
  • Juice of ½ lemon

Procedure:

  1. Combine all of the ingredients together in a pot and bring them to an almost-boiling point.
  2. Pour the mixture into a mug.

Winter Spiced Coffee Recipe

All the winter treats like cream, cinnamon, and cocoa put together in one cup? Yes, please! 

Servings: 6 servings

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup of heavy cream
  • ¼ cup of coffee beans
  • 10 cardamom pods , crushed
  • 2 star anise
  • ½ qt [½ lt] of water
  • ⅓ cup of powdered sugar
  • ½ cup of Kahlúa
  • ⅓ cup of brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of sweetened cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon powder

Procedure:

  • Put the whipped cream, bowl, and the mixing wire in the refrigerator for a while to cool them.
  • While waiting, combine the coffee, cardamom, star anise, and half a quart of water in a 1 quart pot. Boil over low heat until half of the liquid mixture has evaporated.
  • At medium-high speed, whip the cream for a minute and a half until you see soft peaks begin to form. Add some sugar and whisk again for 2-3 minutes. 
  • Strain the coffee to separate any solid residue. Combine it with the Kahlúa and brown sugar and divide into six servings. Finish up with a swirly cream on top along with cocoa and cinnamon sprinkles.

Bicerin Coffee

This drink goes all the way back to 15th century Italy where it was first concocted. A combination of their local hot chocolate plus their strong Italian-made coffee with frothy whipped cream on top. 

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup coffee
  • 1/2 cup hot chocolate
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • Chocolate shavings optional

Procedure:

  • Prepare the coffee
  • Prepare hot chocolate while waiting for the Bella Finca.
  • First pour the hot chocolate up to ⅓ of the mug. 
  • Add the coffee next by making it flow over the back of the spoon up to ⅔ of the mug. 
  • Fill the remaining part of the mug with whipped cream.
  • Garnish with chocolate shavings. 

Tennessee Mud

Ingredients: (good for 1 serving)

  • 1/2 oz Jack Daniels
  • 1/2 oz Amaretto
  • 5 oz brewed coffee
  • Top with whipped cream

Alcohol-free Irish Coffee

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup hot coffee
  • 1 tbsp Irish cream coffee flavor syrup
  • Whipped cream

Procedure: 

  • Brew coffee the way you usually do. Add 1 tbsp of Irish cream coffee flavor.
  • Top it off with whipped cream and sip the coffee through it. 

Makes 1 serving.

White Chocolate Coffee

Ingredients:

  • 3 oz white chocolate, chopped 
  • 2 cups half n half
  • 2 cups hot coffee
  • Whipped cream

Procedure:

  • Put together the milk and chocolate and heat them in a saucepan until you achieve a smooth consistency. Add the coffee and serve with a swirly whipped cream on top. 

Makes 6 servings. 

Maple Coffee

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup hot coffee 
  • ¼ cup maple syrup
  • 1 cup half n half
  • Whipped cream

Procedure:

  • In a saucepan, heat the milk together with the maple syrup but do not bring it to a boil. Add the coffee and top with whipped cream. 

Makes 2 servings.

Black Forest Coffee

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups hot brewed coffee
  • ½ cup chocolate syrup
  • 1.4 cup maraschino cherry juice
  • Whipped cream
  • Chocolate syrup
  • Maraschino cherries

Procedure:

  • Mix hot coffee, chocolate syrup, and maraschino cherry juice altogether. Divide the mixture into separate mugs and serve with whipped cream and cherry on top along with a little chocolate syrup drizzle.

Eggnog Coffee Punch

Homemade White Holiday Eggnog with a Cinnamon Stick

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups coffee ice cream
  • 1 1/2 cups eggnog
  • 1 cup hot, strong coffee
  • 4 tablespoons frozen whipped topping, thawed
  • 4 pinches ground nutmeg

Procedure:

  • On a pan, put in one scoop of ice cream over low heat. Mix in the eggnog and coffee and heat the mixtures for at least a couple of minutes. Divide into four portions. Put in a tablespoon each of whipped cream and add a dash of nutmeg.

Pakistani Coffee

In the Pakistani culture, their coffee is prepared in huge pots because it is usually served to guests and large groups of people. The addition of cardamom makes this coffee taste stand out from others.

Ingredients

Procedure:

  • Break some cardamom pods and put them in the pan. Heat it with the coffee, cinnamon stick, milk, and a little water. 
  • Warm the mixture up for about ten minutes with occassional stirring. Agitate it with a ladle about twenty times to incorporate air into the mixture. 
  • Strain into a coffee pot. 
  • Serve with a cinnamon stick and add some sugar to enhance sweetness.

Pumpkin Cafe de Olla

Aside from being a tasty warm drink, Cafe de Olla can also make your home smell lovely. This coffee is known for being extremely fragrant to the senses. The secret to this is the cinnamon. However, in this case, we also added pumpkin to have that fall drink vibe. 

Ingredients

Procedure:

  • Mix all the ingredients together in a medium-sized saucepan and add sugar. Slowly bring to a boil over medium heat with occasional stirring to make sure the sugar is completely dissolved. Turn off the heat, cover the pan and set aside for 5 minutes. Filter the liquid as you pour them into individual serving cups.
