Who is Volcanica?

Volcanica Coffee is a specialty coffee roaster started 15 years ago (2004) as a family-owned company. In a market overwhelmed by low-quality and over-roasted coffee beans, the company began as a tiny roaster who wanted to offer good coffee.

Quality coffee appreciation from Costa Rica coffee, they brought it to the United States. They found that high-quality coffee was not limited to their homeland but a popular trend in mountainous regions with volcanic soil.

Volcanica Coffee Company

Some of the world’s finest coffee in volcanic areas. It’s not just the altitude; the andisol soil that developed in volcanic ash makes it an extremely fertile growing medium.

The first Costa Rican coffees they sold came from volcanic areas. The business grew and sourced beans from other volcanic areas, such as Hawaii and Jamaica, as coffee from Costa Rica was a great success on the US market.

They searched for more and more volcanic roots from there as a strong predictor of a great coffee. Four great Volcanica Coffee beans are reviewed: Toraja Sulawesi, white eagle; Costa Rica, Tarrazu; Sumatra Mandheling, and Ethiopian Yirgacheffe.

More specifically, Volcanica specializes in coffee grown over 3,000 feet (as high as 7,000). They say their coffee is great and unlike you’ve ever tasted.’ That’s a huge claim; can they sustain it?

Now they carry over 120 coffees in their specialty roasting facility in Atlanta, GA.

Why Volcanica? The gourmet coffee niche

Volcanica is a small business guided by passion, religion, and friendship. Since they are family-run companies, they take care of the well-being of their clients and staff. The company seeks to provide its consumers with the finest quality and share common principles regarding this wonderful cocktail.

Volcanica Coffee is in the gourmet coffee niche and does not advertise itself as an affordable coffee source. However, at a competitive price, they market single-origin coffees.

The vast majority of coffees they sell are organic and single-origin, keeping flavor profiles pure and allowing you to taste those variations. And the entire process is carried out without using hazardous chemical compounds.

Volcanica establishes relationships with farmers. The company pays the best beans at above-average prices so that farmers can earn a decent living. They also ensure that their farmers conserve the surrounding rainforest, knowing it’s not only about shade but the nutrients these plants bring to the soil that benefit the coffee’s flavor.

All orders are roasted just before delivery, and Volcanica holds prices as competitive as possible. If you order from Amazon, you can count on the roast date within 3-30 days. Roasting all their beans to order in small batches makes it one of the best coffee bean companies online.

Besides these fantastic attributes provided by nature, there are other positive things that Volcanica has contributed. Their service and work ethic is fantastic and guided by faith and devotion. Your coffee will be new, and they ensure they pay attention to and of their clients. It’s unusual nowadays, but Volcanica Coffee makes it look simple and manageable.

My favorite Volcanica coffee beans

Many considerations go into making a perfect cup of coffee. Although many of these fall into our hands at brewing time, we can only work with the products we’re given, right? This is where Volcanica comes in.

I’ve tried a few of their coffee beans, and they’re all fine, but my highlights are these coffees. The beans come from volcanic roots and are carefully chosen for their distinctive taste and aroma. In addition, the coffee is roasted to order, so you never get stale coffee.

Artisanal roasting is maybe more relevant than anything else. All coffee is custom roasted to improve the aromas of terroir, raising the beans. I checked African beans from several roasters, for example. Unfortunately, some of these were over-roasted to the extent that they almost killed the delicate flavors of the beans.

Some others were under-roasted, and the coffee was invariably sour no matter what brewing process I used. For a gourmet coffee, having the right roast is important, and Volcanica nail is the perfect color for any bean they market.

Costa Rica Coffee Beans, Tarrazu Original

Costa Rica Coffee Beans, Tarrazu Original
  • 100% Pure Costa Rica Tarrazu Coffee Beans for a smooth, bright cup, well-balanced flavor with a subtle chocolate flavor.
  • They are grown at high altitudes on volcanic soil, where the cherries ripen more slowly, giving them a rich and hearty flavor.

The most popular of Costa Rica’s eight coffee-growing regions is Tarrazu. With coffee growing at altitudes between 4000 feet and 6300 feet, rich volcanic soil, and a perfect climate for coffee growing, it is not surprising that beans from this area are so common worldwide.

A dark roast, but not overly roasted, is this coffee. This roast level makes it possible to withstand Tarrazu coffee’s acidity and strengthens the great notes of chocolate. For those who like good coffee, these are great beans. In a French press, a coffee machine, or a Moka pot, you can brew this. Any other form of brewing works because it is a dark roast.

I love the Costa Rica Reserve, but I love the Peaberry Costa Rican coffee even more. The chocolate notes are more pronounced, and, practically, with flavors, the coffee explodes. The peaberry beans are a little more costly than the regular ones, but it’s worth it. Check out the Peaberry Coffee from Costa Rica here.

Volcanica Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee, Clydesdale Estate

Volcanica Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee, Clydesdale Estate
  • 100% Pure Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee Beans Certified by the Coffee Industry Board of Jamaica for a pure, authentic taste.

This Clydesdale coffee bean is located in Jamaica’s Blue Mountain area. The average elevation is around 3,280 feet, making this coffee so complimentary. You can buy a 16oz bag and pick your favorite form of grind: whole bean, drip grind, espresso grind, or French press.

Toraja Sulawesi White Eagle Coffee

Toraja Sulawesi White Eagle Coffee
  • 100% Pure Toraja Sulawesi Coffee White Eagle has a smooth flavor and a sweet aftertaste with balanced acidity.

This rare coffee comes from Toraja, a remote part of the Indonesian island of Sulawesi in the mountain area. At altitudes of about 4600 to 6200 feet, coffee plants grow here in the shade of big trees.

White Eagle coffee is a rare variety that grows in Toraja, and since it is the best Sulawesi variety, it is selected and kept separately. Unfortunately, it is not only the best but also less productive than other varieties. Just about 500 bags per year are produced in the area.

This coffee is smooth and sweet with heavy chocolate notes and a fruity acidity for a great balance. I love to brew it as an espresso, French press, and Moka pot. There is a syrupy mouthfeel in Toraja coffees, which pleases the old-school coffee lover. But it has a fruity taste simultaneously, which is a new trend in coffee.

Sumatra Mandheling Coffee Beans

Sumatra Mandheling Coffee Beans
  • Sumatra Coffee is known for its smooth chocolate flavor with earthy undertones. The world’s finest coffees display rich flavor, great full-body, and distinctively vibrant, low-key acidity.

Another Indonesian source is from Sumatra’s island and has a great body, like all Indonesian coffee. Sumatra Mandheling is rising in Padang at altitudes between 2500 and 5000 feet.  The acidity of Mandheling is low, with a syrupy aftertaste and earthy tones reminiscent of licorice. The exotic flavor of Sumatra Mandheling is the preference of many coffee lovers, and Volcanica roasts these medium beans to retain the original taste.

Sumatra Mandheling is a great option for strong coffee, and if you want stronger coffee, it can be prepared with a French press, a Moka pot, an espresso, or even a drip coffee machine. It’s one of the best coffees for making a cold brew.

Ethiopian Coffee, Yirgacheffe Region

Sumatra Mandheling Coffee Beans
  • 100% Pure Ethiopian Coffee Beans – Yirgacheffe, Medium-bodied and brilliantly acidy with rough, fruity, or winy tones. Thick body and an earthy aroma coupled with cinnamon and strawberry undertones.

Yirgacheffe is a district in southern Central Ethiopia. The coffee grown here is renowned for its exotic flavor and unique characteristics in high-altitude coffee.

At altitudes between 5600 and 7200 ft, Yirgacheffe is grown. The beans qualify as Strictly High Grown coffee at this altitude. The high altitude slows down the growth, allowing the beans to absorb nutrients and produce their aromas for a long time.

With floral notes and fruity undertones, Yirgacheffe coffee has a vivid acidity. The beans are medium roasted to maintain the delicate chocolate and lavender notes loved by coffee lovers. We suggest brewing this using a manual dripper or a decent automated drip-coffee machine.

Quality and certifications

The Jamaican Coffee Industry Board officially accredits Volcanica Coffee Company and proudly shows the official seal next to all the certified products on its website. It is an assurance that you will get a true Blue Mountain and not a fake. All coffees are roasted and optionally ground for the best coffee experience upon ordering to provide utter freshness.

Volcanica Coffee still tries to work directly with local cooperatives and coffee farms. They fly to remote coffee farms to obtain the best coffee beans and ensure top quality. Not only do they ensure the highest coffee quality by removing intermediaries, but they also contribute to sustainability by eliminating intermediary commissions.

Volcanica Coffee, on trustpilot.com, ranked outstanding. Customers scored 9.3 out of 10, which is great. Almost four hundred reviews can be seen here.

Charity

Volcanica Coffee donates one percent of retail sales to charity. These donations go directly to developing countries’ affordable, community-owned water projects. More about this project can be read here.

Conclusion

Many of us have a favorite cup or even favor consistency. We know what we want, and we’re stubborn coffee drinkers who need our everyday dose.

Other coffee drinkers are more adventurous in their taste preferences. They prefer to change it up a bit, dabbling with a wide range of roasts to appreciate the subtle variations and notes of various regions. Volcanica is the perfect location to explore—literally—a world of flavors through your palate and coffee mug or espresso cup.
