Since it is the first thing people drink before leaving for work or morning chores, the demand for this hot beverage has increased globally.

The Behmor Brazen Plus is an efficient machine that gives you complete control over the coffee brewing controls. You should brew your coffee beans according to your personal coffee preferences.

The brewing process determines the consistency and flavor of your coffee.

That’s why you need the Brazen Plus Coffee Brew System, which will produce excellent results. It is a multifunctional, feature-packed drip coffee maker for your home. And it’s one of our top SCAA-certified coffee makers.

In this Brazen Plus Drip Coffee Maker Review, I’ll explain why this coffee maker could be the best choice for your next cup of java.

Features and usability

As you’d expect from such a complex facade, using the Brazen Plus for the first few times is challenging. This is a device with a learning curve, and reading the manual is not only a good idea but a must. This is particularly true if you intend to use any of the Brazen’s more uncommon abilities.

Behmor brazen plus customizable temperature control

Behmor Brazen Coffee Maker - temperature

The Brazen Plus Coffee Maker has a fast and accurate temperature control brew system.

The temperature of your water supply is fully under your control. Pick the brewing temperature for your coffee beans using the easy-to-read digital display.

The Brazen Plus has a temperature range of 190-210 °F. The Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) recommends brewing coffee at 195-205 °F.

YYour directed settings are saved in the Behmor Brazen Plus’s permanent memory. These calibrations are saved before you modify a parameter.

Finally, when using store-bought ground coffee, you can save time by turning off the pre-infusion mode.

Pulsed water flows with an oversized showerhead for optimal extraction.

The Brazen Coffee maker includes a 3″ diameter oversized shower head.

It allows for better ground saturation and extraction when combined with pulsed water flow.

To completely saturate the coffee grounds bed, the oversized showerhead and pulsed water flow generate turbulence.

It ensures full coffee bed saturation, resulting in superb coffee extraction.

SCAA-certified home brewer

The Brazen Plus is one of only a few coffee machines that has been approved by the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA).

The Brazen Plus coffee brewing system meets its expectations in various ways, including water brewing temperature and optimal brew time. Brazen Plus by Behmor was the first coffee maker to be accredited under the SCAA’s new criteria and testing procedures.

And, for the price, I’d expect less plastic and far more high-quality materials. However, the Brazen Plus Coffee Brew System features are superior to other coffee makers.

By the way, Behmor Brazen’s plastic is BPA-free.

A cool modern design

Behmor Brazen Coffee Maker

The Behmor Brazen Plus is not your average coffee maker.

It has a cylindrical roof, a circular stainless-steel base, and a three-legged body. It reminds me of a space rocket that is about to blast off into space.

Your coffee will stay hot for several hours, thanks to the insulated stainless steel thermal carafe within the Behmor Brazen Plus – even longer if you preheat the carafe with hot water. This task does not necessitate the use of a hot plate burner.

The thermal coffee pot’s only flaw is its small size. Before the carafe is empty, a family of four will enjoy about one and a half cups each.

Stainless steel water reservoir – a drip coffee maker rarity

Another big plus is the stainless steel water tank, which should not leave any plastic taste in your coffee.

Let’s face it: 98 percent of drip coffee makers have plastic water tanks.

The Brazen Plus, not so much! Even better, the stainless-steel water tank doubles as a boiler.

The heater is not concealed inside the coffee maker’s housing. When you find mineral deposits, you can determine whether or not the Brazen Plus needs to be descaled.

You’ll see water level lines within the reservoir to indicate how much water it can carry. It holds up to 40 ounces of water or 8 cups.

The brew timer offered by the Brazen Plus is not special in any way, but it is worth noting. Who wouldn’t want a cup of coffee waiting for them when they wake up the next morning?

Even better, when you leave home in a hurry, the machine automatically goes into sleep mode.

This not only saves you money, but it also saves you from having to remember whether or not you switched off your coffee maker.

Gold filter vs. Flat bottom paper filter

Behmor Brazen Coffee Maker - filter

The gold filter allows the oils in the beans to move through your cup. As a result, the coffee is strong and full-bodied.

However, some say that the oils raise bad cholesterol or don’t like a strong taste. You can use a paper filter and filter basket if you prefer better filtration.

The paper filter inhibits the oils, which can lower cholesterol. On the other hand, it can reduce the intense flavor that you get from the coffee oils.

Pre-soak function with time setting

Behmor Brazen Coffee Maker - presoaking

It has an adjustable timer from 15 s-4 mins in 1-second intervals. Coffee contains naturally occurring gases that must be released while it is very fresh.

The preferred method for brewing drip coffee, whether by the cup or in a high-end larger commercial brewer, is to saturate the ground coffee with a small amount of heated water. Fresh coffee “blooms,” and gases are released during this brief period.

The longer the pre-soak, the fresher the coffee. Pre-soaking ensures complete saturation and reduces the likelihood of coffee overflowing a brew basket (if ground properly).

Behmor Connected Customizable Temperature Control Coffee Maker, Compatible with Alexa

Behmor Connected Customizable Temperature Control Coffee Maker

Nowadays, Behmor has a coffee maker that can be controlled through a smartphone app. The Behmor Connected Coffee Brewer with Alexa (a different model) has the same outstanding features as the Brazen Plus.

The main difference is that all of the buttons on the front panel have been replaced by a single Start/Stop button.

[pr box_two=”B015PE66T4″ ]

You can control anything from the temperature to the pre-infusion time with your smartphone. The best part is that you can save your favorite settings to the Start/Stop button.

You can control the brewing process and receive notifications when your coffee is made and ready to be served.

There is also a Buzz feature that includes brewing profiles from various experienced coffee roasters.

You can also use this coffee machine if you don’t have a smartphone. The Start/Stop button has a pre-infusion and temperature setting by default.

The Behmor Connected drip coffee maker is very expensive, particularly considering that it only comes with a different app.

However, Behmor also sells a home coffee roaster with the same app.

So, if you’re serious about coffee roasting and brewing, the app-supported Behmor coffee maker could be the best option!

Performance comparison

In each of our tests, the Brazen Plus performed above average but not spectacularly. More information is given in the sections below.

Taste

We’d almost say the Brazen Plus taste fits a very narrow niche. We considered the flavor to be extremely smooth but lacking in robustness and flavor.

If you like the heartier taste of a light roast but wish it had a little less acidity, this machine may be for you. It helps to take the heat off, both in terms of bitterness and strength.

Those who want a stronger cup of coffee would be disappointed with this machine and will be better served by the Cuisinart 14-cup programmable or OXO, both of which deliver heartier brews.

Convenience

The Brazen Plus is a little sluggish out of doors. We brewed 6 cups of coffee in 10 minutes after putting coffee into the filter, filling the reservoir, brewing, and cleaning the filter.

The average time for both of our machines was 5 minutes. The extra time isn’t much, but it can feel like an eternity in the middle of a crazy busy morning.

Fortunately, the Brazen Plus compensates for its slow out-of-the-box speed with a programmable feature. This enables you to prepare the coffee and fill the water tank before bed, then set the maker to begin brewing instantly once you wake up. All you’ll have to do in the morning is wipe out the filter.

Brew speed

Your personal preferences mainly determine the brewing time. With temperature settings and variable pre-infusion times, the brew time can be as quick or slow as you want.

User-friendly design

The Brazen Plus was above average when it came to user-friendliness but not at the top of the field. The interface is relatively simple, but the LCD screen is small and difficult to read for some users.

That’s fine if you’re brewing a pot, but you may have to squint a little if you’re trying to set the programmable brew timer. The carafe has a great handle and is convenient to pour, but it has a video opening.

This makes it possible to spill if you’re too nervous on your first pour, but it’s not a big deal.

The font on the LCD is small, but it is big enough for most people to read.

This is comparable to the Cuisinart DCC-3200, which is relatively simple but has a few minor quirks. The OXO On Barista Brain is somewhat more user-friendly, as OXO takes pride in having the best possible interface (and it shows).

Cleaning ease

In our cleaning ease checks, the Brazen Plus performed mediocrely. This put it on par with its key rivals, as only the ultra-convenient capsule machines performed significantly better in our round of tests.

We were pleasantly pleased by how easy it was to clean the reusable filter. We were concerned that this would require a considerable amount of cleanup time, but we were good to go with a fast rinse and a light scrub with soap for sterilization.

The carafe did add some challenges, as it needs a long bottle brush to get into its crevices.

Descaling (which should be done every 3-6 months) took us 35 minutes and didn’t make much of a mess. This was also around average.

Value

The Brazen Plus is only useful for one type of person: someone who prefers their coffee to be smooth and not especially bold. If you don’t fit that description, you’d be far better off spending the $200 you’d have spent on the Brazen Plus or the OXO On instead.

Alternatively, you might save some money and get a much stronger cup with the Cuisinart 14-cup programmable.

Customer support

If you decide to buy the Behmor Brazen Plus, rememremember that you are buying a coffee maker from a small company. As a result, the only way to contact Behmor for help is via their website’s contact form.

In context, there is no phone number you can dial to get in contact with someone who can support you right away.

So, if this is a problem for you, you’ve been forewarned.

Reasons not to buy

What could anyone possibly worry about with all of the fantastic features that the Behmor Brazen Plus offers? As previously said, this is not the fastest coffee maker in the world.

This coffee maker has garnered complaints from some frustrated coffee drinkers due to the pre-soak period (depending on your settings) and waiting for the water to heat up completely. The brew time, according to one owner, was 14 minutes, which included a 2.5-minute pre-soak.

A lot of complaints revolve around the carafe in some way. Many people believe it is too small. Perhaps they’re used to 10 and 12 cup carafes?

Some also argue that it doesn’t hold 40 ounces and only yields “5 or 6 cups,” even though Consumer Reports lists the “measured size” as 40 oz. I’m not a big fan of Consumer Reports, but I trust them when determining how much coffee a carafe can carry.

A few Behmor Brazen Plus owners have complained that the carafe does not keep the coffee hot long enough, claiming that the hot coffee range is around an hour, give or take.

Others have complained that the carafe leaks slightly, and a bunch has claimed that coffee gets stuck inside a plastic component inside the carafe.

It’s difficult to say how common these problems are. On the other hand, consumer reports give some credence to the carafe concerns and rank this coffee maker’s “carafe handling” as a low point, awarding it a rating of “fair.” Simultaneously, overall efficiency and convenience are rated as “very good.”

However, apart from the carafe, another common concern is that the Behmor Brazen Plus sometimes spews hot water. Boiling water has been reported to bubble out of the machine’s top, and some claim that prematurely removing the filter basket will result in an unwanted hot water surprise.

The good thing is that these problems seem to be simple to resolve. If boiling water is dripping from the top of the coffee maker, use the adjustable temperature control on the Brazen Plus. Water that is hot enough to boil in that way is possibly too hot for brewing coffee.

My opinion on the Behmor Brazen Plus

The Behmor Brazen Plus is user-friendly and simple, but it may take some experimentation to find your ideal setup.

But when you do, it will undoubtedly deliver a rich and tasty cup of coffee. In a nutshell, it is one of the best drip coffee makers for the home.

The small coffee pot and the high price tag can put you off, but you’re paying for quality.

And when you get it, I’m sure you’ll be proud to own a coffee brewing machine!
